December 7 updates:
1. Petition Drive
· We’ve had a very good response on the petition drive. Thank you canvassers! Let’s keep it going! We are pushing 2,000 signatures between the paper & online petitions.
· Please
volunteer to canvass your own street. There are still folks who would
care but don't know about the issue. This weekend’s forecast is mild so
it’s a great time to get out and talk with your neighbors. Email connie@actwebservices.com
with what street(s) you’d like to cover. She’ll confirm it hasn’t
already been canvassed and then volunteer Lisa White will get materials
to you (petitions, door hangers, business cards, etc.).
· Last
week Connie Hartke talked about the potential impacts on Lakes Audubon
and Thoreau in an effort to highlight the Reston Association memo on
that topic (bit.ly/RAmemoImpacts). Watch
for a new one next week featuring Northwestern Mutual, the company
behind the attempt to dismantle our County Comprehensive Plan for open
space. Do you have an idea for a video? Make it and we’ll share it!
3. Holiday gatherings
· When
you can, bring up the issue to spread awareness. Ask folks to go
online to sign the petition. If you are hosting an event, consider
having a paper petition displayed for folks to sign (available at rescuereston.org/how-you-can-support-us). If
desired we can provide senior leadership from Rescue Reston to attend
and provide the latest information and answer everyone's questions.
Contact me directly to arrange for a speaking guest.
4. Rescue Reston Winter Gala Online Registration Now Open!
· Our Winter Gala
will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Hidden Creek Country
Club. The purpose of this event is to continue to raise awareness, and
to raise money for our legal defense fund. The timing is strategic –
just days before the BZA hearing on January 30.
· Enjoy
cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, bid on silent auction items, and dance
the night away as we raise money to save Reston's open space and
preserve the Master Plan.
· Space is limited, so register NOW to guarantee your spot. Registration opens to the public on Dec 10.
· Black Tie Optional
· Click here to register: bit.ly/rescuerestonwintergala
· Complete
the requested information, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and
select the PayPal button. From here you can pay via credit card or your
PayPal account.
· We’ll see you there!
Thank You, WE all appreciate your effort!
