As if you didn't already know...
Yes, for the fourth year in a row, commuting traffic delays in the Washington, DC, area ranked the worst in the nation. Texas A&M's Transportation Institute published its annual "Urban Mobility Report, 2012" yesterday and it shows that Washington's commuters each spend an average of 67 hours per year in traffic, wasting 32 gallons of gasoline, producing 631 pounds of excess CO2, and costing each peak period commuter $1,398 (not counting tolls) in the process. As the table for the Washington area below shows, ranked no lower than fifth in every measure of delay the institute tracks. The good news in this report, if one can call it that, is that Washington area delays still remain below their peak before the Great Recession.
