As Reston plans for the future, 2012 will be a crucial year. Planning for the arrival of Metrorail, as well as the continuation of the Reston Master Plan Special Study Task Force into its second phase will be a major part of this year’s events.
The second phase of the task force will examine the future of the five official village centers, as well as the Home Depot shopping center on Baron Cameron Avenue and two small commercial developments.
Heidi Merkel of the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Development says the task force hopes to build on Reston’s successful past planning.
“We’re not planning from scratch, we’re not saying we’re going to take the existing plan and put it on a shelf,” she said. “We’re building on a fine foundation we have in place.”
From this RTF member's perspective, we have more work to do on Phase 1. I suspect it will be Spring and maybe Summer before we start on Phase 2.
