Bicycle signal detection on Soapstone Dr bike lanes, FABB, November 19, 2011
Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling (FABB) reports on its blog that VDOT is installing bicycle sensors in the bike lanes at stoplights along Soapstone Drive in Reston, apparently for the first time anywhere. Wiring embedded in the bike lane detects waiting bicycles--just like cars are detected in their lanes--and changes the stoplight to let them pass after a delay.
