  1. Hello all, I can't find the NextDoor post that gave the three email addresses to which recommendations for the Reston Master Plan Change Recommendations could be sent, so I'll send this to you and post on Reston 20/20...I have no experience with local planning issues on this scale but a dozen years ago I worked with 33 states to get legislation enacted/amended, and I know from that experience there are many different ways within a given State that an idea can become law. I can imagine that governance is similar at the county level, but you have the experience. So I ask you whether it is possible that there will be give-and-take, back-and-forth, negotiation, about changes CPR will propose to the Reston Master Plan. IF SO, I'd like to suggest that, under Planning Population Growth, we begin proposing to Limit Village Center residential development to 8-12 DUA, giving us room to come up to 30 DUA if necessary. If someone has the time, perhaps after the holidays are over, to let me know whether I'm off base on this or not, I'd greatly appreciate it. Happy holidays!

  2. June--Thank you very much for your very thoughtful contribution. As you suggest, we are going to propose about a dozen specific changes to the Reston plan. And, yes, the county is likely to push back on most--maybe all--of them. Still, we intend to remain firm in our commitment to what we believe are reasonable proposals. As for village center DUA in particular, they are already at an average of 10 DUA. We CAN'T (by law) propose that they remain stagnant; that limits developer/owner "by right" development. As I explain in another post here (see https://reston2020.blogspot.com/2017/12/why-should-30-dwelling-units-per-acre.html), we currently think the 30 DUA figure is both workable and limiting. Still, we have not made a final decision on that figure--even as we go deep into the holiday season. We expect to resolve this immediately after Christmas. And, no, you are not off base! Happy Holidays to you too.
