A Reston
2020 volunteer and regular Fairfax Connection rider has prepared several charts summarizing the changes proposed for
local Fairfax Connector bus service when the Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail
Station opens in December.
The charts describe
current weekday bus service, and the county’s initial (January-February 2013)
and revised (April 2013) proposals for three areas: North Reston,
South Reston, and the Reston Town Center to Wiehle Station (Sunset Hills
Road) corridor.
The county’s
revised (April 2013) proposals include both a ‘base service plan’ and ‘optional’
services – increased weekday frequency (lower headways) or new weekend
service -- that could be added if ‘additional funding’ becomes available. County staff is seeking public input on these
options, which are summarized in the far right-hand column.
A key point about
the latest bus service proposal that Reston 2020 has already highlighted to the
Fairfax Connector staff is the apparent one-hour gap in service between the
rush period service (morning service typically ending at about 8:30AM) and
mid-day service (morning service typically beginning about 9:30AM). Some similar gaps also occur in the transition to the evening rush period and post-evening rush period. These gaps are highlighted in the
accompanying charts.
These unofficial
charts are designed to facilitate comparison between the various plans. Please consult current bus schedules and the
county’s proposals, available on the Fairfax Connector web site, for full details
and route maps.
